About
Bellator MMA (originally Bellator Fighting Championships) was an American mixed martial arts promotion founded in 2008 by Bjorn Rebney and headquartered in Hollywood, California. Structured around single-elimination tournaments, Bellator was consistently ranked as the second-largest MMA promotion in the United States throughout its run. Paramount Global (formerly Viacom) purchased majority ownership from Rebney in 2011 and the promotion aired on Showtime from 2018. Following Showtime’s announcement that it was shutting down its sports division, Bellator was acquired by the Professional Fighters League on November 20, 2023. The brand was wound down and the final Bellator event was held, with operations formally ceasing on January 14, 2025. The promotion held 313 numbered events during its history, with Scott Coker serving as president from 2014 until its closure.
