K-1 is a professional kickboxing promotion founded in 1993 by martial artist Kazuyoshi Ishii, headquartered in Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, Japan. The name K-1 is officially designated to represent karate, kickboxing, and kung fu. Originally operated under the Fighting and Entertainment Group (FEG), K-1 was for many years considered the largest kickboxing organization in the world, famous for its heavyweight Grand Prix tournaments that drew massive audiences in Japan and internationally. Following a period of dormancy when FEG filed for bankruptcy, the brand was revived under M-1 Sports Media Co., Ltd. and continues to promote events.
