> UFC 327 Preview: Prochazka vs Ulberg Title Fight Breakdown
On April 12, Jiri Prochazka walks into Kaseya Center in Miami to defend the UFC light heavyweight title against Carlos Ulberg. Most casual fans are treating this as a comfortable defense. They’re wrong.
Why Ulberg Is Dangerous
Carlos Ulberg is 13-1, with every win coming by finish. His lone loss — to Bogdan Guskov in 2023 — was a split decision that many observers scored for Ulberg. He has a 76-inch reach, knockout power in both hands, and has not been seriously threatened by any opponent since. His ground game is not elite, but it is functional enough that he doesn’t get finished.
The specific threat he poses to Prochazka is straightforward: Ulberg is one of the few fighters in the division with the size and punch output to make Prochazka’s high-risk, chaotic style genuinely dangerous for himself. Prochazka’s losses to Glover Teixeira (2022) and Pereira (2024) both came when opponents pressured him with power and forced him into trades.
Ulberg is the best version of that archetype Prochazka has ever faced.
Prochazka’s Counter-Argument
The case for Prochazka is simpler: he’s the better grappler, the better decision-maker in live chaos, and he carries one-punch KO power that Ulberg has never been forced to respect at this level. Prochazka’s 32-5-1 record is the most decorated in UFC light heavyweight history among active fighters, and he has looked increasingly composed since his second title reign began.
His camp has emphasized wrestling preparation in media availability ahead of UFC 327, suggesting they anticipate Ulberg wanting to keep it standing and are preparing to take the fight to the mat when needed.
The Title Landscape
If Prochazka wins, the next challenger is almost certainly Jamahal Hill, who defeated Rountree Jr. at UFC Fight Night Houston in February to re-establish his contender credentials. If Ulberg wins, the division resets completely and light heavyweight becomes the most volatile title picture in the sport.
Either way, Miami on April 12 matters.
Prediction
Prochazka by TKO in round 3. Ulberg’s output will be high early, Prochazka will absorb punishment and wear him down, and the finish will come late in round three when Ulberg slows and Prochazka finds the opening his style always eventually creates.
