About
Tristar Gym is a mixed martial arts training facility located in the Le Triangle borough of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, established in 1991 by Conrad Pla, Michel Lavallée, and Ron Di Cecco. The gym passed through several ownership transitions before Firas Zahabi purchased it in 2008, transforming it into one of the most analytically respected fight camps in professional MMA. Zahabi’s coaching philosophy centers on technical precision, biomechanical efficiency, and individualized game-planning — a methodology most visibly demonstrated through his work with Georges St-Pierre, widely considered one of the greatest mixed martial artists in UFC history. St-Pierre’s two-division dominance at Welterweight and Middleweight, his 13-fight winning streak, and his technically immaculate performance style all bear Zahabi’s influence. The gym operates at an altitude advantage for conditioning purposes and employs a staff that includes striking specialists and jiu-jitsu coaches. Other notable fighters associated with Tristar include Rory MacDonald, Robert Whittaker, Johnny Walker, and Kevin Lee. The facility is consistently ranked among the top MMA training environments in North America and is recognized in the broader combat sports community for its intellectual approach to fight preparation.
