> Sambo-70

Sambo-70 is a sports school in the Cheremushki District of Moscow, Russia, whose name reflects its founding year of 1970. The school was founded and directed by David Rudman, a Soviet combat sports champion who won the USSR sambo title six times and became the first world sambo champion in the 68 kg weight class at the inaugural 1973 World Sambo Championships. Rudman also held the European championship in judo. From 2005, he served as President of the International Sambo Federation (FIAS). Under his leadership, Sambo-70 grew from a small school-based section of 13 students into one of Russia’s largest martial arts and sports educational institutions, eventually training thousands of athletes across sambo and related disciplines. The school has produced numerous world, European, and Russian champions in sambo. David Rudman died on February 8, 2022, at the age of 78.
