Marcelo Garcia Jiu-Jitsu (MGJJ) is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu and submission grappling academy opened in September 2009 by five-time ADCC Submission Wrestling World Champion Marcelo Garcia in Manhattan, New York City. Garcia, widely regarded as one of the greatest submission grapplers in history, built his reputation on an unprecedented record at ADCC — winning the 77 kg division multiple times and claiming the absolute title — before transitioning into coaching and instruction. The Manhattan academy became one of the most sought-after training destinations for serious grapplers in North America, drawing competitors and hobbyists alike to learn Garcia’s hallmark techniques: the arm drag, the guillotine choke from butterfly guard, and a systematic back-taking game centered around the rear naked choke. Garcia has since expanded the MGJJ operation to include a second location in Hawaii. The academy is open to students of all experience levels and offers group classes, private sessions, and online instruction through Garcia’s subscription training platform.
